A Letter from Your Alumni Association
Dear Beta Brother:
Since the 173rd General Convention and the return of the charter to the Tau Sigma Chapter of Beta Theta Pi, much has happened at 2120 Lincoln Way in Ames, Iowa. Last semester, the chapter won the annual Varieties competition on campus, recruitment numbers continue to grow, and leadership and academic progress are being made. As alumni, you should be proud of your fraternity and the volunteer efforts and financial contributions that assisted the chapter during the time of struggle.
As alumni, we celebrated the return of the charter with a celebration dinner in November 2012 at the Iowa State Alumni Center. The event featured a keynote address by the Administrative Secretary of the General Fraternity, Judson Horras, Iowa State ’97. Horras was also part of the inaugural members to the Tau Sigma Chapter Hall of Honor that include Michael Dubes,’66, Larry Prohaska ’89 as well as Bob Stafford ‘42 and John Weigman ‘50 posthumously. These five individuals have been steadfast supporters of the chapter over many years. In addition, last fall one of our distinguished alumni, William A. Maakestad, Tau Sigma 1084, provided a $25,000 donation to kickoff the initial renovation of the chapter house that has begun this summer.
As we turn our focus more and more from maintaining the viability of the active chapter at Iowa State to a sustainable support structure for developing leaders and improving the chapter property, we need your continued support as volunteers and donors. This summer, the chapter will begin start of upgrading and protecting the investment at 2120 Lincoln Way with more than $100,000 in improvements, including sealing the basement, installing a new fire sprinkler system which will meet fire code requirements, and furniture to make for competitive living arrangements on campus our active members and potential recruits. Brothers Mark Moine (Martin-Gardner Architecture), Stan Griffith and Ron Sande have provide in-kind work as architects, contractors, and building experts.
To meet this need, alumni have already provided $50,000 of the funds to make this first step in bring Tau Sigma back to its full tradition of excellence at Iowa State. We need you to consider providing a donation or to organize donations from your pledge class to help us meet our needs for $50,000 in additional funds this year. These funds will be recognized as part of our future capital campaign that we expect to kick off in 2014.
Please support the Tau Sigma chapter and your fraternity this summer. There are three options for your consideration (above).
Have a great summer and Go Cyclones! We appreciate your contributions and continued dedication to the Tau Sigma Chapter of Beta Theta Pi at Iowa State University.
