While Tau Sigma has not yet received reports for the Spring 2013 semester, we hope to continue to improve in: providing consistent access to information about financial scholarships, informing members about intellectually cultivating opportunities outside of the classroom, and endearing a culture of academic success within the house.
For the Fall 2012 semester, Tau Sigma registered a 2.76 House Grade Point Average. While an overall improvement from the Spring 2012 semester, members agreed that changes would be necessary as we strive to develop as a chapter.
The first order of business was to update the pledging process with our holistic vision of the house. New members will no longer be guaranteed a second semester of pledging if they do not achieve a 2.5 GPA in their first semester. While we did create a process that would allow new members to have a second semester if granted by a majority vote of the chapter, the bylaws now stipulate that no one will be given a third semester of pledging.
Second, the academic assistance program began to be fully utilized, enforcing scholastic stipulations for participation in events like Greek Week, Varieties, and socials.
Lastly, as we continue to tailor the academic assistance program to each individual member’s needs, we have utilized consultants from the university Academic Success Center to give members the necessary resources for success in the classroom.
While much has been done in my time as scholarship chair, the chapter has much more to do moving forward.
